Ian Erickson is a designer, writer, and curator based between Berlin and New York. His work explores material systems and media cultures. He is currently a fellow at NEW INC, the New Museum’s cultural incubator, and works at Barkow Leibinger.
He is the founding Editor-in-Chief of DISC, a publication and curatorial platform exploring design and media. In 2026 he will co-teach AA Visiting School Berlin “A Shrinking Archipelago” revisiting 1977’s Green Archipelago by O.M. Ungers and Rem Koolhaas.
Ian was previously a member of the curatorial team for the Pavilion of Turkey at the Venice Architecture Biennale, Architecture as Measure. and a research fellow at Rhizome. His work and writing has appeared in Log, Vestoj, MOLD, Paprika, Pidgin, and The Brooklyn Rail, as well as in the exhibition catalogue Fashion & Interiors for the Antwerp Museum of Fashion. His individual and collaborative work has been shown at the Venice Biennale of Architecture, the 2019 Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture in Shenzhen, a83 in New York, and is held in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw.. He has practiced with studios including Leong Leong,ANY, Mork-Ulnes, Stock-a-Studio, and The Open Workshop. He interviewed Miuccia Prada and Raf Simon on the runway of Prada FW 21 Menswear and has lectured at the University of Chicago for the 2024 Chicago Architecture Biennial and at WSA.
Ian holds an M.Arch I from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, where he was a Dean’s Merit Scholar, and a B.A. with a Certificate in New Media from the University of California, Berkeley, where he received the Departmental Citation in Architecture.
